COMMUNITY LIVING

Life in a residential treatment community is a new, and sometimes confusing, experience for most clients. To minimize the stress involved in early recovery, Alpha Recovery has developed a structured program that exists to enable the total community to function in a constructive and supportive atmosphere. At the time of admission to Alpha Recovery, each client is fully briefed concerning all rules and regulations of the residential requirements. The Alpha Recovery staff provides supervision of the residential community to include individual, group and family interactions. Staff members are available on a 24-Hour basis. In Atlanta, each unit is under the direction of a Senior Resident, then the Residential Supervisor, and finally the Program Director. In Brunswick, staff members live on-sight, at the facility, and are available on a 24-hour basis, as well.

Each member of the Community is required to attend five Twelve-Step Fellowship meeting per week. In addition to twelve step meetings, each client is required to attend specific groups each week. New clients will be required to attend an Orientation Group. Part of the Community Meeting function shall be to introduce new members to the community, to positively reinforce responsibility in the clients, and to educate clients in areas directly related to substance abuse. In the Peer Group Meeting, the Senior Residents have the responsibility of confronting irresponsibility and giving consequences, reviewing meeting attendance, and reviewing Therapeutic Leaves. Staff members will be present at these Peer Group Meetings in an advisory capacity; however, staff reserves the right to make final decisions. Clients will be required to participate in Peer Group Dinner every Sunday evening, in order to establish a family-like atmosphere amongst the group. Clients will be required to attend a Phase dependant Process Group each week according to Phase level. Newer clients will attend Life Skills Group and will present their individual story in the Life History Group. Upper Phase clients will be required to attend gender specific groups in the Men’s Issues Group and the Women’s Issues Group.

Other groups that are offered are Relapse Prevention Group, a 12 week course to help clients identify triggers, avoid relapse situations, and learn alternative behaviors to using; the Time Management Group is designed to teach planning, uses, and management strategies for an individuals and their time; Behavioral Modification I and Behavioral Modification II are 4 and 8 week courses, respectively, and are designed to educate the client to the importance of adherence to rules and regulations, both of Alpha Recovery Centers, and of society in general, to address criminal and other non-compliant thinking and behavior, and to recognize and respect appropriate authority. These groups are chargeable to the client and are usually used in conjunction with other consequences for various rule infractions while in the program.
